RecordBeggar's badge< 1 of 1 > Back from the Parish of Cavers, Roxburghshire
Beggar's badgeThis beggar's badge is from the parish of Cavers in Roxburghshire. It is made of lead and dates from 1729. The front of the heart-shaped badge bears the words 'Cavers, Roxb' and the date, 1729. There are two perforations at the top. The heart is the emblem of the Douglases, a powerful clan which in medieval times dominated much of southern Scotland. The shape of the badge is probably a reference to the clan.
