This silver gilt spoon was found under the floor of St Ronan's Chapel at Iona Nunnery. It dates from the 13th century and may have formed part of the treasury of the wealthy nunnery.
The spoon is engraved with leaflike designs and gilt incised lines.
The earliest buildings of the religious establishment on Iona were founded by Columba after his arrival on the island in 563. The nunnery dates from the early 13th century.
