Gold bracelet set with agatesThis gold bracelet, set with agates, was possibly made in Aberdeen by M Rettie. The design was registered in 1858. The heart-shaped pendant at the end of the bracelet contains a lock of hair. Scotland has rich sources of agates, jaspers, bloodstones, cairngorms and granites all popular in 19th-century jewellery. Queen Victoria's love of the Highlands and interest in Scottish traditions helped foster the popularity of 'Scotch pebble' jewellery.
