Baton, used in Fenian riots in Leith

This wooden baton was used in Fenian riots in Leith in 1868.

The baton has plain mouldings on the shaped handle and is stamped with the arms of the Burgh of Leith.

The Fenians, or Irish Republican Brotherhood, agitated for Irish independence, and organised a series of riots and insurrections throughout Britain in 1867-8.
