A crusie was a type of lamp which burnt animal fats or oil. This iron example is from Aboyne in Aberdeenshire.
The crusie consists of an upper and lower pan. Peeled rushes would have used for wicks. Lamps were made by local blacksmiths and were durable and long lasting.
