This string holder of yellow varnished wood dates from the 19th century.
The holder has on its side a transfer picture of Taymouth Castle and Loch Tay in Perthshire.
19th-century wooden souvenirs, which were produced in vast quantities, often featured images of local views. They are a permanent record of the holiday journeys made in Scotland, and of the images which, for the holidaymakers, represented Scotland.
