Coffee pot and stand, made in Edinburgh
Add to album

This silver coffee-pot and stand was made in 1900-1 by Hamilton & Inches of Edinburgh. The coffee-pot is placed on top of the three-legged stand while the lamp sits underneath to heat the coffee.

The coffee pot has a cylindrical body, pedestal foot and shallow domed lid. The stand consists of a reeded circle of silver supported on three reeded legs with feet. The lamp has a lid with a small tube through the centre for the wick.

Domestic silverware was a mark of taste and indicated status. In the 19th century, customers who visited the silver department of any large department store or who patronized fashionable silversmiths found an increasing range of decorative styles.
