Made in Edinburgh
A monteith is a silver punch-bowl with a scalloped rim. This example was made by Edinburgh silversmith James Cockburn, in 1702-3.
The monteith has handles formed from lions' heads with rings in their mouths. The engraving on the side of the monteith is the arms and crest of Johnstone of Westerhall together with the ducal coronet of Ernest, Duke of Cumberland.
