Sword, owned by Prince Charles Edward Stewart

This sword was presented to Prince Charles Edward Stewart in 1740 by James, Duke of Perth. After the defeat of the Jacobite army at Culloden in 1746, it was captured and given to the Government commander, William, Duke of Cumberland.

The sword has a fine silver basket-shaped hilt made by a London goldsmith called Charles Frederick Kandler in 1740-1.
