Pieces of silver ring brooches

These three silver ring brooches (only one of which is near-complete) were part of a hoard of coins and jewellery discovered in 1878 under the floor of the 'Traveller's Rest' public house in Dumfries. The hoard was hidden in about 1320.

The pin at the foot of the picture was originally attached to the the brooch on the left.

The hoard included over 200 coins, mainly English pennies. The silver jewellery was probably kept for its bullion value.
