This highly detailed figure of James VI dates from the early 17th century. It may once have formed part of some mechanical device, such as a clock.

The figure shows the king crowned and enthroned, wearing his coronation robe. The left arm, probably once holding a sceptre, can be moved up and down by means of a lever at the back.
