This shield features the painted and gilded arms of the Incorporated Trades of Dalkeith. It dates from the 18th century and comes from the gallery of Dalkeith Parish Church in Midlothian.

The shield is set in an open scrolling framework. In the centre of the oval shield is the insignia of the Hammermen, the crowned hammer. The motto at the foot reads: 'We Live By God's Providence'.
