From Kennoway Parish, Fife
This brass mould for casting communion tokens comes from Kennoway Parish in Fife. With the mould are seven interchangeable numbered discs, used to indicate the order in which groups of communicants should come up to the communion table.
One half of the mould is inscribed: 'Kennoway 1833'. The other has the inscription: 'This Do In Remembrance Of Me'. These are key words in the communion service, and are taken from the Biblical story of the Last Supper.
There was only one small communion table in most churches. Those taking communion were therefore organised into groups, which would come up to the table in turn.
