Pot from Midhowe Broch, Rousay, OrkneyThis fragmentary pot was found at Midhowe Broch on Rousay in Orkney. It was probably used for storage sometime between 200 BC and 400 AD. The pot was originally highly burnished to make a shiny exterior. It is partly restored. Although brochs were defensive structures, finds of everyday activity, such as this pot, show that they were meant to be lived in, rather than simply refuges in times of trouble.
