Pot (piece) from Midhowe Broch, Rousay, Orkney

This fragmentary pot was found at Midhowe Broch on Rousay in Orkney. It was used for cooking or storage sometime between 200 BC and 400 AD.

Approximately two-thirds of the coarse pot survives. It has been partly restored.

Although brochs were defensive structures, finds of everyday activity, such as this pot, show that they were meant to be lived in, rather than simply refuges in times of trouble.
