Add to albumThis silver centrepiece of Sir Walter Scott was presented by the Bannatyne Club to David Laing, their Secretary. Designed and modelled by Peter Slater, it was made by Walter Crichton, Edinburgh, 1858-9.
The silver statuette of Scott is surrounded by three figures representing History, Poetry and Music.
Sir Walter Scott, 1771-1832, was a poet and author. His historical novels, based on religious and political conflict and clashes between Scots and English, Highland and Lowland, encouraged an heroic view of Scotland's past.
