Add to album

This is a model of the Bell Rock Lighthouse off Arbroath. Designed by Robert Stevenson and built between 1806 and 1811, it is now the oldest rock tower in use in the British Isles.

This model shows the tower in its finished state, with openings to illustrate the interiors of the various apartments. The railway, cranes, and boats used during the construction of the lighthouse are also shown.

Robert Stevenson, 1772-1850, was the first of the Stevenson 'lighthouse' dynasty. He designed and built 18 lighthouses, including Bell Rock off Arbroath. He also designed canals, harbours and bridges.
