This is the reverse of the leaden seal of Pope Honorius III. It was found near Inchaffray Abbey in Perthshire. It dates from between 1216 and 1227.

This face of the circular seal depicts the faces of St Peter and St Paul. Above the faces are the letters 'SPASPE' - S' stands for Saint, 'PA' for Paul, and 'PE' for Peter.

The Pope, based in Rome, was the head of the Church. Documents came from Rome with directives and information for the Scottish Church.
