Add to album

This one pound banknote was issued by the Union Bank of Scotland on 4 January 1926. The note was printed using steel plates engraved by Waterlow & Sons, London Wall, London.

The bank's arms are featured at the top of the note, flanked by the note's number. The two equestrian statues at the lower left and right are of William of Orange and Charles II. The printed signatures are of the general manager and the cashier.

Founded in Glasgow in 1830, this bank's strength developed as it absorbed many west of Scotland banks, including the Thistle Bank, the Paisley Union Bank and Hunters & Co of Ayr. The Union Bank was itself merged with the Bank of Scotland in 1955.
