Drug jar

This maiolica drug jar was made in Italy, perhaps in Faenza or Genoa, in the 16th century.

The jar is painted in slate blue with leafy scrolls and the label 'Lle Indi'. The label probably describes the contents of the jar, probably a purgative electuary.
