This carved oak door is from Amisfield Tower in Dumfriesshire. It dates from 1600 and is the work of a local craftsman.

The door depicts Samson tearing open the jaws of a lion. At the top is the date, 1600, and a shield bearing the arms of Charteris and Herries.

Amisford Tower was built by a member of the Charteris family in 1600. A later mansion adjoins the tower. Today both mansion and tower are in a good state of preservation.
