Model, of Swedish training schooner Gladan
Add to album

This wooden model represents the Swedish training schooner 'Gladan' (kite). Together with her sister ship 'Falken' (falcon), they were built in 1947 as sail training ships for the Swedish navy. The model was built to a scale of 1:48 by the model maker, Mr R W Clark of Glasgow.

Each ship was equipped with an auxiliary diesel engine in addition to a two-masted schooner rig.

'Gladan' and 'Falken' normally cruised in the Baltic or the North Sea, operating with a permanent crew of 15, with 38 cadets under training. Both ships also took part in a number of tall ships' races.
