Tapestry, entitled Chains, designed by Archie Brennan and woven by Jean Taylor and Dot Callendar

This cotton and wool tapestry entitled 'Chains' was made in 1977. It was designed by the Scottish artist Archie Brennan and woven by Jean Taylor and Dot Callendar. The tapestry formed part of the Scottish Crafts Collection, which was transferred to the National Museums of Scotland when the Scottish Craft Council was wound up.

The tapestry portrays large links in a chain, depicted in greys and blacks.

Archie Brennan apprenticed at the Dovecot Tapestry studio in Edinburgh, and then completed the diploma course at Edinburgh College of Art. He was a director of the Edinburgh Tapestry Company in 1962 for many years. He then left Scotland, and has woven and taught tapestry in Australia, New Guinea, Hawaii and, in 1993, settled in New York.
