Microscope

This brass microscope was made around 1870, probably by Gardner & Co., scientific instrument makers based in Glasgow. The microscope was smaller than other models and was aimed at the student market.

The microscope has rack-and-pinion focusing. It is signed on the back of the two-toed base 'Gardner,/ 53 BUCHANAN ST/ Glasgow'.

Gardner & Co. had premises at 21 Buchanan Street from 1839 to 1859, and at 53 Buchanan Street from 1860 to 1882.
