Pitch pipe, of St Andrews Philo Vocal Society

Pitch pipes are used to establish the correct starting note for unaccompanied singing. This wooden example was presented to the St Andrews Philo Vocal Society in 1802 by R.B. Niven from Glasgow.

The pipe has silver mounts and contains a sliding inlaid ivory pitch scale. It is inscribed 'From R. B. Niven, Glasgow, To The St Andrews Philo Vocal Music Society, 1802'.
