Jug, with caricature drawn from defeat of Napoleon's troops in Egyptian campaign
Add to album

This jug is decorated with a popular caricature drawn from the defeat of Napoleon's troops during the Egyptian campaign of 1801.

The transfer-printed jug shows a piper of the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment using Napoleon Bonaparte as a set of bagpipes. The tune being forced from the reluctant Frenchman is the British national anthem 'God Save the King'. The Highland soldier has been chosen to represent British power and also because the 42nd Regiment distinguished itself in Egypt in 1801.
