Communion cupsThese two pewter communion cups are from Wishart's Kirk in Dundee. They date from around 1695. Each cup has a straight-sided bowl, set on a baluster stem with a simple, stepped base. 'Wishart's Kirk Dundee 1695' is engraved at the foot of each bowl. In Presbyterian churches communion usually took place once or twice a year. Those considered worthy by the elders were invited to sit round a table to share bread and wine, representing the body and blood of Christ.
