These silver-painted oak chairs were designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. They were for the Room de Luxe in the Willow Tea Rooms which opened in Glasgow in 1904. They were part of an order for 34 chairs made by Francis Smith, costing £2 15s 0d each.

The chairs are made of oak, painted silver, and upholstered in velvet.

Between 1896 and 1917 Miss Cranston, a shrewd businesswoman and a believer in the temperance movement, created several tea rooms in Glasgow. She commissioned Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh to design four tea rooms.
