This soft paste porcelain jug was produced in 1827 by William Reid's pottery at Newbiggin near Musselburgh in East Lothian. It was specially made for Robert Moffat of Fordeldean in the parish of Ford in Midlothian.

The jug is painted with gardening symbols and 'Robert Moffat/Fordeldean'. There is one panel depicting Adam and Eve and another marked 'Emper Peratus'.

The Moffat family have been market gardeners at Fordeldean for generations.
