made in India
This marble figure of the Hindu goddess Sarasvati comes from Rajasthan in western India, and dates to the 11th century.
This white marble sculpture of the upper half of the goddess Sarasvati is adorned with jewellery and playing a vina, a classical Indian musical instrument.
The goddess Sarasvati is associated with agriculture, and more importantly, wisdom, learning, eloquence, music and the arts. The latter connections explain her depiction playing the vina, an instrument still used today to convey the highest principles of classical Indian music.
