Flag, of `C` Company, 1st Battalion Royal Highland Fusiliers

This flag of 'C' Company, 1st Battalion of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, was flown while the battalion was serving in Northern Ireland around 1975.

The flag is the Saltire, the national flag of Scotland. The centre of the cross has the thistle and crown, symbols of the Scottish kings. These symbols are surrounded by the kings' motto 'NEMO.ME.IMPVNE.LACESSET'.

This design of this flag is unchanged from those carried by the predecessors of 1st Battalion of Royal Highland Fusiliers, the 2st Foot, in the late 17th century when they formed part of the Scottish army. Scottish regiments stopped carrying these flags as their official colours after the 1707 Union with England.
