Silver tankard made in Edinburgh
Add to album

This silver tankard, dated 1776-7, was made by Edinburgh goldsmith, Patrick Robertson. It measures one quart.

The tankard is plain apart from engraved swags of stylised flowers caught up into rings which hang from just below the rim.

Robertson was one of the most important goldsmiths in the second half of the 18th century, and was brother of William Robertson, principal of Edinburgh University and Moderator of the Church of Scotland.
