Medals, awarded to Captain Malcolm Henry Somerled McDonaldThese medals were awarded to Captain Malcolm Henry Somerled McDonald of the Royal Navy. They date from World War I and II. The medals include a Distinguished Service Order (on the left) awarded for McDonald's steady direction of fire-fighting aboard HMS Dublin during the battle of Jutland, 1916. After HMS Dublin was hit by enemy shell-fire, McDonald led fire-fighting teams below decks, operating in smoke and darkness.
