Painted wooden sign for a tobacconist's shop

This sign for a tobacconist's shop was made by J. Steele of Edinburgh in 1835. It is a figure of a Moor smoking a long clay pipe. This figure was used as a shop sign for several Edinburgh tobacco shops throughout the 19th century.
