Armour (fragment)This fragmentary bronze arm guard from Roman armour was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used sometime between 80 and 180 AD. The arm guard is made up of overlapping strips of bronze. Roman soldiers were very well armed. Unlike native society, possession of armour, helmet and a sword were not signs of special wealth or status. Every soldier, infantry and cavalry, was fully equipped.
