This lady's white muslin overdress dates from around 1780.

The dress is stripe-woven and printed with stripes of multicoloured flowers.

By 1780 lighter silks and the popular printed cottons had changed the style of dress. Backs were still cut with the bodice and skirt in one piece but the pleats were sewn down and converged at a narrow point at the waist. Bodice fronts would still have been pinned and there were no fastenings.
