Pot, sherds and a miniature battle axehead
Add to album

This ceramic pot, sherds from another, and miniature stone battle axehead were found in a grave of a five to eight year old child buried at Doune in Perthshire. He was buried sometime between 2000 and 1700 BC.

One vessel, decorated with whipped cord impressions, is almost complete. The sherds have been joined to form part of a second vessel which has been decorated with comb impressions. The miniature axehead was made from a weathered stone.

The miniature battle axehead indicates that the child was of high status. Another similar child burial from the same cemetery contained a miniature macehead.
