Figure of Tam O'Shanter

This is an unglazed red clay figure of Tam O'Shanter from Robert Burn's poem of the same name. It dates from the 19th century. A figure of Souter Johnnie from the poem was also made, both figures being produced in glazed and unglazed versions.

The figure shows Tam O'Shanter seated on an armed settle with his feet resting on the plinth.
