Add to album

This ceramic pot and stone lid were found in a small cist at Rudha na Traghad at Port nan Long on North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The pot was found upside down beside the stone lid. They could date anytime between 1000 BC and 1000 AD.

The pot is a simple, plain vessel with bulging walls. The lid is made of mica schist.

Little can be said about the significance of this find. The pot was empty, and it is unclear whether it had a funerary significance or if it was associated with the domestic activities of a nearby settlement.
