Bowl (Piece)

This piece of a samian ware bowl was found during excavations at the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used sometime between 140 and 180 AD.

The bowl is decorated with a scene showing a man on horseback with a lance hunting a stag. The manufacturer's name 'CINNAMI' is stamped on the bowl.

Roman soldiers enjoyed hunting and fishing for sport. Hunting scenes are depicted on various Roman objects.
