Fashion plate, from La Belle Assembleé

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Belle Assembleé, a ladies' monthly magazine published in London. The plate is of the Princess of Wales in a court dress and appeared in issue no 18 on 1 July, 1807.

The inscription at the foot of the plate includes the text, 'Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales in her Court Dress on the 4. June, 1807, as authentically taken from the real dress made by Mrs Webb of Pall Mall'.

Founded in 1806 by John Bell, La Belle Assembleé contained articles on cooking, painting and needlework. It also reported on events in the literary, musical and artistic world. It remained in publication until 1869.
