Tartan dress for a small boy
Add to album

This small boy's dress or kilt-like skirt may have been made by Wilson's of Bannockburn around 1820. It would have been worn with a pair of trousers of matching tartan or of white linen. In colder weather a white linen skirt could be worn.

The low-necked, short-sleeved dress is of the Royal Stuart tartan and has red braid and metal buttons. The material is hard and would have been rough against tender skin.
