From North St David Street, Edinburgh

This stoneware bottle was found in the cellars of a house in North St David Street in Edinburgh. It dates from the late 18th century and was imported from the Netherlands. It was used for holding effervescent mineral water known as Seltzer water.

The bottle has a cylindrical body, sloping shoulders, a short cylindrical neck and a loop handle. On the shoulder opposite the handle there are the letters 'M.N' surrounded by a crown.
