Amulets
Add to album

These two amulets, one of tusk and the other of tooth, were found at the site of the neolithic village of Skara Brae in Orkney. They date from between 3500 and 2000 BC.

The amulets are polished smooth. They both have holes allowing them to be hung.

Magic and superstition were an integral part of everyday life. Charms and amulets were commonly carried, although sometimes it is difficult to identify them as such or interpret their symbolism.
