Beads

Two of the glass beads pictured here were found at Cawdor near Nairn in Highland, three are from Aberdeenshire and one is from an unknown location. They are examples of native glass working, made between 100 BC and 800 AD.

The beads are all decorated, generally with streaks of colour irregularly mixed together.

Glass was recycled to produce a limited range of items. Beads such as these were relatively easy to make. One known place of production through the years was on the nearby Culbin Sands in Moray.
