IngotThis ingot of zinc bronze was found at Carn Liath at Golspie in Sutherland. It preserves marks from hammering, made sometime between 100 and 400 AD. The ingot has been hammered flat, clearly showing the hammer marks. It weighs 1494.5 grams. Metal was a precious resource to early people. When an object broke, it could be melted down and remoulded into ingots. Ingots were useful for transporting metal between places, and for shaping into a variety of metal objects.
