Finger ringThis iron finger ring was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It dates from between 80 and 180 AD. The finger ring has an empty setting in which a stone would have been placed. The Romans brought the fashion of wearing finger rings to Britain. The most common type was a heavy metal hoop, narrow at the back and swelling to a broader bezel in which an oval gemstone was often set. Many examples have been found in Britain.
