Armour fittingThis bronze armour fitting was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It is part of the plate armour known as lorica segmentata, worn by a legionary soldier sometime between 80 and 180 AD. The fitting consists of two plates of bronze, held together by two rivets. Lorica segmentata was made up of iron strips mounted on leather straps inside, and fastened on the outside with bronze buckles, hooks, hinges and leather straps. Larger plates to cover shoulders, chest and back were attached to the rest of the armour. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
