This container in the form of a toad was made by Peter Gardner's Dunmore Pottery in Falkirk district. It is based on a Chinese original.

Container in the form of a three-legged green and cream toad, by Dunmore Pottery, Stirlingshire, 1860 - 1910

Peter Gardner took over his father's small redware pottery in 1860 and immediately began to develop new ranges of fashionable wares. The pottery was supported by the local landowners the Earl and Countess of Dunmore.
