Silver ewerThis silver ewer, dated 1706-7, was made by Edinburgh silversmith, Thomas Ker, for Charles Hope, 1st Earl of Hopetoun (1681-1742). The ewer forms part of a silver toilet set which includes a basin and a casket. The ewer has a plain tapering cylindrical body, a harp-shaped handle and a stepped moulded foot. The ewer front is engraved with the monogram 'HLH' surmounted by an earl's coronet and surrounded by two branches of foliage. The earl was MP for Linlithgow in the pre-Union parliament.
